Q. Burn After Reading has been described as silly. But there is a serious futility in each character’s obsession.
Ethan: It’s pretty bleak. I watched a football game last night, and it was the first time I’d seen a commercial for it, since I don’t watch much TV. I thought, “Hmm, it looks like a comedy.”
i just walked out of the "theater" after seeing B.A.R. as with most coen films, it will require repeated viewings for my true judgement of the film to be made. that being said, my initial reaction was very positive. i went into the film expecting bleakness...expecting a black comedy...a coen bros. film. unfortunately for those in the theater with me they didn't...they expected the comedy advertised in the trailer. one girl behind me exiting the theater said, "well, that was the worst movie i've ever seen." another woman upon my exit was accosting what appeared to be a theater manager demanding her money back. he said something to the affect, "i'm sorry, i can't give your money back to you after you've seen the film just because you didn't like it."
i'll leave it at that. i won't give any of the plot away, but i will close by saying; if you truly love the coen's you will enjoy this film. if you enjoy a good bouncing dildo gag you will enjoy this film...oops...i gave something away.
