1. You, dear host, are going to find this difficult. Take it as far as you can. 2. I've seen three Coens movies: Fargo, O Brother, and Country for Old Men. I was amazed to learn the first two were by the same crew. I went to college in Minnesota and decided, when it turned out Fargo (the movie, not the city in N. Dakota) was not "based on a true story", that it presented only mockery of midwesterners. Conversely, they may have intended O Brother to be mockery of chivalry or nobility or justice or faith, but I loved it. Maybe they were the doubters presenting a doctrine better than the true believers could. The third movie (a good movie name?) gave me to despair of America, and now that we've seen the blitz of Gaza, the rise of Obama, yet not a stern word from Obama about Gaza, and his generals promising to reinforce Bush doctrines (no reduction in Army deployments in next 18 months, Iraq will be a "US strategic partner", to cite two recently), it does seem we're following up, if you will allow me, our "Old Men" suicide note with acts tending to that end. 3. Therefore, having checked out the premises, as it were, of Serious Man, here's my suggestion to the Brothers. Make a movie about Israel. 4. Maybe that wasn't so hard. 5. Cheers
